Spring is around the corner, ushering in longer days, warmer weather, and a wealth of opportunities. EXPAND YOUR ACTIVIST PRACTICE AT FOUNDATION HOUSE:

APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED ON A ROLLING BASIS

Foundation House, located in backcountry Greenwich, CT, opens its doors for up to 5 days to established teams of activists and change-makers (up to eight residents total), allowing these groups the time and space to be together under one roof to make meaningful progress in these beautiful and inspiring surroundings. Teams will receive a $5,000 grant to their organization, a continental breakfast, and two full meals hosted by Foundation House. As a resident, you have full kitchen access, as well as access to studio space, a wide variety of common areas, and 75 acres of land to explore and enjoy.


OUTER COAST OUTREACH FELLOWSHIP

APPLICATIONS CLOSE MARCH 11TH, 2024

Outer Coast is an emerging, two-year liberal arts college in Sitka, Alaska offering a transformative, community-based, and student-governed education. The outreach fellow works on building the relationships (philanthropic, programmatic, and administrative) that an organization needs to operate day-to-day and grow sustainably into the future. The fellowship takes place from September through May. Fellows receive housing, a $1,150 monthly stipend, and a $500 relocation stipend.


PROPUBLICA INVESTIGATIVE EDITOR TRAINING PROGRAM:

Applications close March 11, 2024

ProPublica is inviting up to 10 news editors from media companies across the country to participate in a yearlong investigative editing training program, led by the newsroom’s award-winning staff. The goal of this program is to address the journalism industry’s crucial need to diversify the ranks of investigative editors.

The five-day, all-expenses-paid boot camp will be held June 2-6, 2024, in New York, with remote sessions via Zoom throughout the year. 

The program kicks off with a five-day intensive editing boot camp in New York, with courses and panel discussions led by ProPublica’s senior editors, veteran reporters and other newsroom leaders. The boot camp will include hands-on editing exercises and opportunities for participants to workshop projects underway in their own newsrooms.

BECOME A BRIC LAB CREATIVE RESIDENT

Applications Accepted Until March 14, 2024

BRIClab is a multi-disciplinary residency program created to advance opportunities for visual artists and media makers. This program offers emerging to mid-career artists essential support and opportunities to share their work. All residents receive a $2,500 stipend, mentorship, skills-based learning and professional development, and documentation of their work. Additional support, in the form of funding, space, access to equipment and media classes, and other resources varies according to tracks. BRIClab artists will also have the opportunity to share their work through public programming that will take place in the Spring and Summer of 2025.

The program’s three tracks are Contemporary Art, Film + TV, and Video Art. Each track offers unique resources and opportunities designed to meet the needs of varied artistic practices.

ALEX BROWN FOUNDATION ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE 2025:

Applications Accepted Until March 15, 2024

The Alex Brown Foundation & Residency offers visiting artists from around the world the unique opportunity to create their work in our intimate, modest-sized city. A residency at The Alex Brown Foundation is ideal for artists looking to work in a spacious private studio without distraction, and access to a unique community. Application fee of $20


IRENE YAMAMOTO ARTS WRITERS FELLOWSHIP:

Apply before March 17, 2024

The Yamamoto Fellowship encourages emerging arts writers of color to write about works from their own cultural and political perspectives, enriching and broadening cultural criticism as a practice and profession. Theater, dance, and performance art were selected for 2024 because these art forms are still struggling in the wake of setbacks from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Fellowship grants two $5,000 unrestricted awards to two emerging writers of color who write critically about theater, dance, and/or performance art.


NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY PICTURE COLLECTION ARTIST FELLOWSHIP

Applications accepted until March 31, 2024

The New York Public Library’s Picture Collection, part of the Wallach Division of Art, Prints, and Photographs, is pleased to offer the Picture Collection Artist Fellowship to support artists or scholars engaged in the research, development, and/or execution of a new creative or scholarly work based on the Collection’s holdings. Since 1915, the Picture Collection has been an essential resource for artists, designers, illustrators, filmmakers, and many others who have relied on its voluminous holdings for inspiration. The fellowship allows dedicated access to the Collection and guidance from its staff with the goal of highlighting the Collection’s distinctive attributes. The fellowship will also foster community connections with peers and experts allowing for collaborative exchange. 

Fellowship stipends are awarded on a sliding scale from $2,000 to $5,000 and are supported by the generosity of the Anne Levy Charitable Trust.


 FRANKLIN FURNACE FUND FOR PERFORMANCE ART

Deadline is April 1, 2024

The Franklin Furnace FUND for Performance Art is supported by Jerome Foundation, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and biennially by the SHS Foundation in honor of Ruth Hardinger. FUND grants range between $2,000 and $10,000 based on the peer review panel allocation of funding received by Franklin Furnace. Artists from all areas of the world are encouraged to apply; however, artists selected by the panel are expected to present their work in New York City. Full-time students are ineligible.


JACKI APPLE AWARD IN PERFORMANCE & ARTIST PROJECTS

Applications due by April 30, 2024

Franklin Furnace is honored to present the inaugural Jacki Apple Award in Performance and Artist Projects, celebrating the enduring impact of Jacki Apple on the New York art scene.

This award will be an annual award given over the next ten years and reflects Jacki Apple’s commitment to championing artists, demonstrated through her multidisciplinary career as a writer, educator, radio host, and artist since the early 1980s.

The Jacki Apple Award in Performance and Artist Projects is initiated by Jacki's sister, Marjorie Bank, along with Jeff McMahon, Deborah Oliver, Stuart Jackson-Hughes, and Emily Waters. The Jacki Apple Fund is a tribute to Jacki's lifelong dedication to NY & LA’s avant-garde art communities. Franklin Furnace and sister organization LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions) will each distribute one $10,000 award per year for a total of 20 awards over the coming decade.


CREATIVE CAPITAL HAS OPENED THEIR 2025 OPEN CALL

Applications due by April 4, 2024

The Creative Capital Award provides unrestricted project grants up to $50,000 which can be drawn down over a multi-year period, bespoke professional development services, and community-building opportunities.

  • Visual Arts: including painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, architecture, design, multimedia, installation, video art, performance art, new genres, craft, and socially engaged, and/or sustainable visual art-based practices

  • Performing Arts: including dance, theater (new theatrical work, playwriting), jazz, music, opera, singing, and socially engaged and/or sustainable performing arts-based practices

  • Film/Moving Image: including experimental film, short film, animation, documentary film, narrative film, and socially engaged and/or sustainable film/moving image-based practices

  • Technology: including augmented reality/virtual reality, bio art, data visualization, hardware, software, digital media, internet art, and socially engaged and/or sustainable technology-based practices

  • Literature: including poetry, fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, and socially engaged and/or sustainable literature-based practices
