EXPAND YOUR ACTIVIST PRACTICE AT FOUNDATION HOUSE:

APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED ON A ROLLING BASIS

Foundation House, located in backcountry Greenwich, CT, opens its doors for up to 5 days to established teams of activists and changemakers (up to eight residents total), allowing these groups the time and space to be together under one roof to make meaningful progress in these beautiful and inspiring surroundings. Teams will receive a $5,000 grant to their organization, continental breakfast, and two full meals hosted by Foundation House. As a resident, you have full kitchen access, as well as access to studio space, a wide variety of common areas, and 75 acres of land to explore and enjoy.


PROPOSAL REQUEST: WEBSITE REDESIGN & DEVELOPMENT:

American Documentary is now accepting proposals from Web Designers and Developers to redesign and restructure our current website, amdoc.org, as well as limited updates to our PBS website, pbs.org/pov. A successful candidate will produce a user-friendly, appealing, and high-functioning website in time for the launch of POV Season 37.


ROMANTIC URBANISM DIGITAL COLLECTION:

Applications close April 14, 2024

This open call is looking for are seeking essays, visual art, interviews, and design proposals that explore the notion of romantic urbanism: the features of urban spaces that can help foster love. The chosen submissions will be curated into a digital romantic urbanism collection. In addition to the digital collection, we are interested in proposals that can also be turned into placemaking activations and would work with you to secure a location and identify potential funding to implement the activation. 


MEET ME THERE, ANOTHER TIME ANTHOLOGY FOR QUEER AND TRANS WRITERS

Meet Me There, Another Time responds to the rise of fascist thinking and forced alienation of our community members while centering on our voices and healing process as we seek to belong where we can. Queer and trans people always have a way of making our world bigger while others try to make their world smaller. These reconnections with the places we’ve left offer a reminder that we are always here and, in a way, always there.


THE BRIDGE

THE BRIDGE is a groundbreaking non-profit mentorship program for Emerging Photographers and creatives aged 18-26 in New York City and Los Angeles.  

Created in partnership with the American Society of Media Photographers, The Bridge is an immersive 16-week  hybrid of professional development workshops, in-studio visits, and dynamic interaction with diverse mentors and seasoned industry professionals.  The Bridge is designed to bridge the gap between traditional education and successful industry careers. 

The BRIDGE challenges talented young artists to develop their points of view through exercises in creativity and communication, and we provide unparalleled real-world experience to help them expand and pursue their goals. 

The BRIDGE is designed to open doors and lift the barriers of time, money, and access. Students build community with their peers and mentors to take confident steps towards achieving sustainable careers in photography and the arts.


THE SECOND STORY GALLERY ARTISTS COOPERATIVE:

Apply before April 30, 2024

The Second Story Gallery Artists Cooperative is recruiting new members. This contemporary artists exhibition space is located in the New Orleans Healing Center at 2372 St. Claude Ave, New Orleans. All members are required to stage a yearly show, participate in group shows, attend monthly zoom or in- person meetings about membership protocols, participate in gallery openings, and pay a nominal monthly membership fee.

Applications for new artists will be vetted by the membership and should include no more than eight artworks, an artist’s statement, art resume, social media sites, and $25 to apply.


JACKI APPLE AWARD IN PERFORMANCE & ARTIST PROJECTS:

Franklin Furnace is honored to present the inaugural Jacki Apple Award in Performance and Artist Projects, celebrating the enduring impact of Jacki Apple on the New York art scene.

This award will be an annual award given over the next ten years and reflects Jacki Apple’s commitment to championing artists, demonstrated through her multidisciplinary career as a writer, educator, radio host, and artist since the early 1980s.

The Jacki Apple Award in Performance and Artist Projects is initiated by Jacki's sister, Marjorie Bank, along with Jeff McMahon, Deborah Oliver, Stuart Jackson-Hughes and Emily Waters. The Jacki Apple Fund is a tribute to Jacki's lifelong dedication to NY & LA’s avant-garde art communities. Franklin Furnace and sister organization LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions) will each distribute one $10,000 award per year for a total of 20 awards over the coming decade.


WACHTMEISTER AWARD & RESIDENCY FOR MUSIC COMPOSITION:

Deadline is May 15, 2024

The 2025 Wachtmeister Award is open to established composers and/or sound artists using acoustic sources. Eligible applicants will have worked professionally as a composer for at least the past 15 years with substantial national or international achievement in their field.


FELLOWSHIP: COKIE ROBERTS FELLOWSHIP FOR WOMEN’S HISTORY:

Applications due by May 15, 2024

The Cokie Roberts Research Fund for Women’s History will support one to three annual fellowships for emerging and established historians, journalists, authors, or graduate students who perform and publish new research to elevate women’s history using the records held by the National Archives. This fellowship is intended to support the cost of travel and time to conduct research and publish works related to original research conducted at the National Archives.

Applicants must be emerging or established historians, journalists, authors, or graduate students with proven writing skills, a demonstrated passion for women’s history, and the ability to perform in-person research at a National Archives facility. Applicants can be based anywhere in the U.S.


JONATHAN AND BARBARA SILVER FOUNDATION GRANT FOR WRITING ON SCULPTURE:

Applications due by April 4, 2024

In this grant program, the Jonathan and Barbara Silver Foundation’s goal is to encourage and support sculptors, whether emerging or established, and writers about sculpture.

The JBSF grant program operates on a 2-year cycle with alternating grants that support writing in even years and sculpture in odd years. Applications are now open for writing on sculpture, and the recipient will be announced later in the year. The sculpture grant application will be available in 2025.

The writing grant is specifically for a writer who generates fresh writing and thinking on the history, aesthetics, purposes, imagination or situation of sculpture.


THE HODDER FELLOWSHIP:

Applications open July 1, and close mid-Sept 2024

The Hodder Fellowship will be given to artists and writers of exceptional promise to pursue independent projects at Princeton University during the academic year. Potential Hodder fellows are composers, choreographers, performance artists, visual artists, performance artists, visual artists, writers, translators, or other kinds of artists or humanists who have "much more than ordinary intellectual and literary gifts." They are selected more "for promise than for performance." The next application cycle will open on July 1, 2024.
