Agency life: Connecting brands to consumers through culture

clp photo 1I love when I encounter a truly impressive, authentic event or activation. Whether I like it or not, I am a bit jaded. After I speaking very, very highly about the DC House activation at SXSW, I just had to know more about the team behind it. Two of the people responsible were Jonathan Peterson and Chez Cager of Washington DC’s Mi Agency. Mi Agency is a boutique lifestyle marketing agency that connects brands to consumers and much more. We previously covered DC House on our site. Tell us more about how the collaboration came to fruition?

As the most popular conference attracting leaders in the tech and creative industry, entrepreneurs, talent, and investors, SXSW Interactive and SXSW Music provides an engaging platform to directly connect with decision makers and thought leaders while also promoting Washington, DC. Washington, DC’s presence at SXSW each year is led by the Washington DC Economic Partnership (WDCEP), in partnership with the Executive Office of the Mayor of the District of Columbia and the Deputy Mayor of Planning and Economic Development.

Its mission is to support Washington, DC’s effort to expand its technology sector, promote its innovative startup companies, highlight its creative talent, and foster new partnerships among the DC and national business community. Mi Agency was happy to support the promotion of local brands and execute activations for our sponsors. It was an honor to be part off the team and participate in coordinating a strong comprehensive marketing campaign to promote DC as a thriving creative center.

You’re both balancing so many different roles/projects. How do you maintain balance for your clients and yourselves?

Organization is a major key in maintaining structure. Administratively, we use a few apps and calendars to assist in our cohesive daily operations. One of the great things about our projects are we believe in our clients visions – so it doesn’t feel as though we’re working. Every professional experience becomes a personal to share and learn from.

How do you define culture? Who are your favorite cultural icons?

Culture is defined by ideas that influence society. Ralph Ellison, Steve Jobs, Keith Clinkscale.

What is your favorite social media platform and why?

Instagram and Twitter. Twitter is great because it allows for 1 on 1,000 interactions. With the use of hashtags you can immediately see real time reactions to events.

Tell us more about Mi Agency. How did you come together and what are your goals for 2016?

Being entrepreneurs is always about reaching for a higher echelon. Mi Agency was founded on the principles of presenting marketing strategies as experiences for the consumer. Our goals for 2016 are to execute additional passion projects and visual storytelling.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by watching ideas come to fruition that positively impact the progression of culture and shape the world.
